Tips for Buying Scuba Diving Travel Insurance
- Declare all medical conditions. Any omissions could void your policy.
- Buy cover as soon as you book. This ensures you are protected for cancellations or unexpected events before departure.
- Consider annual versus single trip cover. If you are planning more than one trip in a year, annual multi-trip insurance may be more cost effective than buying separate single trip policies.
- Once purchased, keep a copy of your policy handy. Then you can easily check cover details.
What If I Already Have a Standard Travel Insurance Policy?
If you already have a standard travel insurance policy which excludes or limits dive coverage, dive accident insurance is another option. This is designed to cover the specific medical risks associated with scuba diving. It typically includes emergency medical evacuation and repatriation costs, personal accident benefits and search and rescue costs in the event of a dive accident. Broader travel coverage such as trip cancellation, lost baggage and medical care for non-diving emergencies is usually excluded.
